Curran's Apple Orchard

Today was the perfect fall day for our field trip at Curran's Apple Orchard! It may have been a little on the chilly side, but the kiddos had a blast on the wagon ride, picking their own gourds, and playing around the orchard! We also learned the proper way to pick an apple. Did you know that if you pull an apple from the tree it will harm the buds that produce next season's fruit? Twist it three times and then it will pop right off! We ended our visit with some delicious apple cider donuts and apple cider...YUM!

Cool, Creepy Spiders! 🕷

We just finished our spiders unit! The kiddos did an amazing job of learning about schema (things we already know about a certain topic) and adding new information to our schema. We learned that schema + new information = new learning! Take a look at our schema chart that we created in class!

We also talked about misconceptions. Misconceptions are things that we believe to be true about something, but are later proven false. All facts that students provided about spiders were proven to be true, so for this topic we had no misconceptions! We also clarified that misconceptions are not a bad thing, but we do want the information we know and learn to be accurate.

We also learned about the life cycle of a spider. Spiders start out as eggs and are protected by an egg sac. Then, they hatch from their egg. At this stage, they are known as a spiderling. Finally, they grow into an adult spider. Students were given the opportunity to create their own spider life cycle in their reading journals.

We also talked about opinions vs. facts. We learned that an opinion is how we feel about a certain topic. A fact is something that is proven true. We took a poll on whether or not we believe spiders are cool or creepy. We created a class chart with our votes and we discovered that majority of our class believed that spiders were cool! Students were then asked to write about why they felt that way and had to provide a true fact to support their answer! Take a look at our class chart!

Finally, students got to create their own spiders! They are SO cute and really add to our classroom for the spooky season!

Our First Few Days Together...

Welcome back!

I can't believe the first few days have come and gone already!

We have been super busy learning our classroom rules, routines, and procedures. The kiddos have done an AMAZING job of remembering everything, and believe me, it is A LOT!

I am so excited to get this year started and see all the wonderful things my students are able to do! If these first three days are any indication, this is going to be the best school year yet!

Take a look at our first day of school pictures below! 😊
